Homemade Sweet & Tangy Red Quinoa Salad
Sweet and tangy red quinoa salad is one of my favorite side dishes. This salad doesn’t last long in my house. My hubby and I finish this usually within 24 hours. We have good reasons for that:
- It’s crazy healthy
- The sweet & tangy taste combination is worth drooling over
- The fresh peppers add the perfect amount of crunch

Many people are not very familiar with quinoa and have several questions about it. Before we move on to the recipe, I’ll try to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about quinoa.
What is quinoa? Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah) is similar to rice but isn’t really a grain. It’s technically a seed but is still considered a whole grain food. One cup of cooked quinoa has 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber!
What’s the difference between white and red quinoa? Not much except the price. Red quinoa is about half the price of white quinoa but still packs just as much nutrition. You could say red quinoa is the frugal version of white quinoa.
What does it taste like? The taste and texture of quinoa is similar to rice but has a little bit of a nut flavor to it.
How do you cook it? Quinoa is cooked in a similar way as instant rice except it needs to be rinsed in cold water before cooking.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked and cooled red quinoa
- 1/3 cup Italian dressing (add more for a tangier taste)
