As Christians, we want to have Christ in our minds and hearts each and every day. But, how do we do that?
By making sure you have a solid, Christ-centered morning routine is key!
Check out these simple and practical tips to make sure you are keeping your focus on Christ every day!
How to Have a Christ-Centered Morning Routine
If you already have a morning routine, that is great and these tips will help you really focus and make sure you are keeping your mind on Him each and every day.
But if not, now is the perfect time to start!
Why should we start our days in God’s Word and focused on Him first thing?
Well, first of all, we should be giving God our first in everything; tithes and offerings, time, praise, love, service, etc. We want to give Him our very best and that includes our first thoughts each day!
I understand there are different seasons in life – when I had my daughter, she didn’t exactly sleep on a normal schedule for a long time – like LONG long time! So it was very hard to get up early and spend that time with Him, and I usually would take 30 minutes each night before bed to have that quiet time.
The important thing is to carve out that time for Him each day, and the benefit of doing it in the morning is to have the right mindset for whatever you face during the day!
If you aren’t able to get up before your kids, that’s okay… include them in on it!
Encourage them to have their own quiet time, maybe you can all sit together and each read and pray, then talk about what you think God is showing you. What an awesome time to spend together as a family in godly conversation!
So now that we have some practical ways to start a morning routine if you haven’t yet, let’s look at some great things to incorporate into your Christian morning routine…
1. Read Your Scriptures or Devotional Right When You Get Up
First thing when you get up, you definitely want to start your day RIGHT, and you can do that by reading God’s Word and can even pair it with a great devotional.
So many times I find, when I take the time, first thing to read, the devotions or verses I read will relate to my day in some shape, form, or fashion! Coincidence? Definitely not – that’s God’s providence and showing us He is with us throughout each and every day.
You can either read your Bible right when you get up (I try and wake up about 30-45 mins early before my daughter) or at the end of your morning routine. Reading during breakfast also helps to get your daily reading in, and can inspire your kiddos to read their Bibles too or make it a family thing altogether! Here are some great free Bible reading plans you can go through, and some cute ones for your kids as well.
You can also add in a great devotional with your Scripture reading or one that goes through different books of the Bible. Taking that time to read a devotional or the Scriptures is essential during your morning routine, especially as a busy mom.
2. Begin Your Day With Prayer & Thanksgiving
The first thing we want to do when we open our eyes as well as the last thing before we close them at the end of the day, is to pray!
Staying in constant communication with God and in tune with the Holy Spirit affects the way we respond to whatever comes our way that day. Our circumstances may not change when we pray, but our attitudes and thoughts will!
Using the Lord’s prayer as a guideline that Jesus modeled for us is a great place to start if you don’t know what to pray! You can read that in Matthew 6:9-13.
Begin with acknowledging who God is (our Father) and praising Him, thanking Him, etc. Then we can bring our requests to Him and ask Him to protect us from the schemes of the enemy, and then pray for our family, others, etc.
3. Keep a Morning Gratitude Journal
Next, it’s a great idea to keep track of prayers and thoughts through journaling! Keeping a gratitude journal or binder is such a great thing to do. When we journal out our thoughts and prayers, there are so many benefits, including:
- It can be therapeutic
- It keeps all our thoughts centered
- Keeps you humble and thankful
- We can look back and see how God worked in those prayers (my favorite one!!)
You can take about 5-10 minutes each day to write in it – write down prayers, thoughts, emotions, praises, anything you think of! This will also help you start your day off right, after reading Scriptures and getting focused for the day, hopefully with an uplifted spirit within you!
4. Listen to Worship Music
Listening to Christ-centered songs really helps you focus on Him and worship Him throughout your day!
Worship doesn’t just mean listening to songs, but it’s a lifestyle. Your life should represent Him and be a form of worship to Christ, by the way you live. This is just one way you can show Him your worship and praise, by singing songs to Him!
The Bible also tells us to be careful what we watch, read, or hear (Proverbs 4:23-27), so filling our minds with praise music is a great way to filter out those negative, ungodly thoughts and let our minds focus on Him.
5. Send Your Family Words of Encouragement or Prayers
One way to focus on Christ is to love others as He would love them. You can do this by sharing words of love and encouragement with your friends and family members. You can send a note to one family member each day – your husband, kids, parents, friends, anyone!
In your note or text, remind them how much Christ truly loves them, and how you love them, too.
Something my husband does for me almost every morning when he gets to work is he sends me pictures of the devotional he is praying through. He prays for me as well and will send me that encouragement, which motivates me to pray for Him as well, and spend that time with the Lord. I am so thankful for him for that!

6. Choose a Christ-Like Attribute to Focus on Each Day
There are countless Christ-like attributes you can learn and focus on. Each morning, choose one and be like Christ in that attribute all day long!
For example, say you wanted to focus on Jesus’ generosity for the day. Pray and ask God to present you with opportunities where you can be generous and to open your eyes towards them. Trust me, He will. 😊
Doing this each day will help you become more like Him, ultimately drawing closer to Him as well.
In the shop, right now Sarah is building the attributes of God for kids with her printables packs. Here’s the first one she’s created:
Another great starting point would be going through each of the fruits of the spirit! You can pick one each day or week to focus on, and even get your kids involved during your family Bible time.
Having a Christ-centered morning routine will not only help keep your focus on Him each and every day but help you grow into the person He desires for you to be.
Starting your day with God each day will help you grow deeper in your relationship with Him, be able to love your family well, and respond to trials and situations with His mindset and not your own. Today is the day to start! 😊
