Invest in Plastic Sets of Drawers (and label them)

Labeling the drawers helps your kids and other family members know where each kind of toy belongs, making for help with clean-up super fast and easy.

Donate Old Toys
Periodically talk with your kids about donating toys that they don’t play with anymore to boys and girls who are without. This helps them to develop a sense of gratitude, while also cleaning out those toys that are no longer used.
Do your kids have special toys that will always remain favorites (but they don’t use anymore?) Put them in storage bins and place them in the attic, basement, or garage for safe-keeping. Those old favorites will be fun to pull-out again years down the road.
Designate a Bookshelf for Children’s Books
Books are a great addition to any child’s playroom. Placing a sturdy bookcase in the playroom (screwed to the wall for safety) will allow them to be kept contained and organized. If the shelf needs further organization, consider purchasing brightly-colored small plastic bins that you can place on the shelf. Each bin can hold books by different authors, different genres, etc.
Have an Art Wall
If you want your children’s art to stay in the playroom and not all over your home (it can quickly take over, let me tell you!), create an art wall. Your children can look at their creations and save the ones they really love. When the art wall is filled up, they must choose which ones to let go in order to make room for their new art projects. This helps them in the decision-making process and installs priorities in your children as well as making it fun for them. They are so proud of their art and anyone who comes to visit, just HAS TO see their wall!

Create Themed-Areas in the Room
In organizing your playroom, create areas for ease of use. One corner, with a table and chairs, could be the art center. This would be a good place to keep the art supplies. Another wall may hold a play kitchen. Keeping a small crate near the kitchen for dishes, utensils, etc. will help to keep those toys organized. By creating areas in the playroom, the flow of where things belong is likely to go much more smoothly. To divide the spaces up, use area rugs or foam alphabet mats.
Bins are Great
As already mentioned, bins of a multitude of shapes and sizes will be your friends in playroom organization. They are relatively inexpensive and can be labeled with what each one is to hold. Small toys and books fit wonderfully in them, making them your allies against Barbie shoes and toy cars. You can even put a cube shelf up to hold your bins and label each bin with your children’s names or by type of toy.
Have Your Children Help with Clean-up
Starting at about age 3, your child can begin helping with clean-up tasks. Early on it may be, “please hand me everything you see that is red,” but as your child grows, so will her ability to complete the clean-up tasks on her own. Teaching your child to keep her toys organized is one of the great hacks to help aid your quest for a clutter-free house as they get older!
