7 Ways to Fall in Love With God More
Did you know that “7” is a godly number in the Bible? God uses 7 (and 40 a lot)!
God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th day.
In the story of Joseph there were 7 good years and 7 years of famine.
In Joshua when they marched around the city of Jericho, they did so for 6 days and it fell on the 7th.
And so many more examples!
That’s why I chose 7 ways today! It was a way I could use a godly number. 💖 Let’s dive into those reasons more below…
1. Read Your Bible More
The first way to fall more in love with God is to read His Word. All Scripture is God-breathed and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Since Scripture truly is inspired by God, then what better way to fall more in love with Him than by reading what He has to say? The Old Testament all points to Christ, and the New Testament shows us how Jesus lived and how we should live. Just reading through the books and stories will show you different characteristics of God and remind you of how much He truly does love you.
Think back to when you fell in love with your husband. The more you got to know him, the more you liked him, right?
It’s the same thing here. The more we know and understand the perfect God that we serve, the more we naturally fall head over heels in love with Him. Not in a romantic way, like with your husband, of course, but same principle.
If you don’t already have a Bible reading plan to really take you deeper into His Word, you can check out some of my free, undated Bible reading plans here! These are great for your whole family. 🥰
2. Pray More
How do you or did you decide who you want to marry? Do you just look at someone and say, “Yep I’ll marry that one.”
Probably not! You probably talked to that person, got to know them, and grew more in love with them like I mentioned above.
When we talk to God, it’s a two-way street. We talk to Him every day through prayer and this is one of the ways HE speaks to us as well. Ever be in the middle of a prayer and all the sudden you’re convicted of your sin SOOOO bad? This is the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart, convicting you of your sin so that you can repent and be restored to God.
While He wants us to talk with Him throughout our day, consistently, He wants us to be open to hearing Him also. It’s about building that deep and intimate relationship with Him.
Here are some things you can start praying for today:
- Your own spiritual walk
- Your spouse and your marriage
- For your kids
- Family and friends
- Unbelievers
- Your church and world leaders
- The body of Christ as a whole
- Situations you may be going through now, hardships, etc.
Make a prayer list, keep it somewhere where you will see it, pray over it every day, and add more as needed. If you’d like to learn more about how to pray, I have a great post here, How to Instantly Transform Your Prayer Life.
3. Keep A Prayer Journal
After praying, I would HIGHLY recommend writing down your prayers in a prayer journal, as well as when God answers prayers so you can be reminded of His faithfulness. Sometimes prayers can be answered very quickly with a yes or no, sometimes He will say wait or maybe later. Sometimes it can take years to receive the answer. But be diligent, keep praying about it, because He loves to hear from us and wants that relationship with us!
And having a prayer journal will help you keep track of your prayers, when you’ve prayed them, and when God answered them. You can see how He works things out in your life that you may not understand at the moment, but because He sees the big picture, you can trust and love Him, and know He has better things in store for you.
4. Go Through a Bible Study
God’s Word is the more important book you can read to truly know Him and fall in love with Him more, but there are so many great Bible studies you can use to assist and dig deeper as well, especially if you’re like me and you like to keep things fresh. I love to read all sorts of things, whether it’s the Bible, Bible study notes, commentary, Christian books, etc.
You can check out my all-time favorite list of recommended Christian books to read to grow closer to God! Again, the more you know about Him and understand Him, the more you’ll fall in love with your precious Savior!
5. Study the Life of Jesus
Reading through the gospels and understanding the life of Jesus is a GREAT way to fall more in love with God.
Knowing what Jesus did, how He lived, studying it out in depth shows us how much God loved and still loves us, that He would orchestrate this beautiful love story and ultimately sacrifice His own son so we could have a way to spend forever with Him.
Wow! 🙌 What is more loving than that?!
6. Listen to Worship Music
This is probably the easiest way you can fall in love with God more and more, and that is by listening to praise and worship music! So many praise songs remind us of how good He is and what He has done for us, as well as encourage us through our own trials.
Plus, when you are filling your mind with good positive, godly things, it will give you the right mindset and help you to keep Christ-like thoughts, no matter your circumstances that day. Just be very careful WHO you listen to. False Christianity is EVERYWHERE, including music. I personally stay far away from Hillsong and Lauren Daigle for example.
Ones that I trust to listen to are:
- Brandon Heath
- Matthew West
- Casting Crowns
- Mercy Me
- Micah Tyler
- Robin Mark
Those are my fav’s. There are a lot of good ones out there, but there are false ones too, who want to subtly disconnect us and teach us error about Christ. Be diligent of who you listen to. If you want my Best Christian Songs playlist on YouTube, it’s here.
7. Learn More About Him
I think the number one, best way to fall more in love with God is to learn more about Him! You can do this by reading your Bible more, talking to Him, studying, listening to other sermons, worship music, etc. When we do those things and are actively seeking Him and wanting to learn more about Him, it’s hard NOT to love God more!!
This also helps you to be able to recognize His voice and discern what is from Him and what isn’t. The more we know about Him, the more we can see what thoughts are His and which are our own or from Satan.
Hearing and seeing what He has done for us, on the cross AND His faithfulness and blessings He showers on us daily, will help you fall more in love with Him each and every day.
No matter where you are in your spiritual walk with Christ, whether you have been saved for 1 day or 40 years, these 7 ways will help you fall more in love with God as you seek to honor and obey Him in your life. 🥰
