I’m just too scared to try…
What if I fail?
There’s so many bloggers online- how do I know who to trust?
How can I find the time to blog? I’ve got kids at home.
What would I even write about?
Who would listen to me? How would I even get traffic?
Just how DO bloggers make money online?
I’m Scared to Start a Blog
These are all very legitimate and common questions those considering blogging have.
- You want to know if blogging is right for you.
- You want to know that what you have in your head about blogging is something you can get online and make money doing it.
- You wanna know that you’re making a difference in the world.
I get it!
I remember the day God convicted me to start a blog. I thought He was nuts! I didn’t even know what a blog was, it was daunting to say the least! I certainly didn’t see the power of having one, nor the income it could make. Never-the-less, I jumped in headfirst.
Within 1 year, I was making $10,000/month, no joke. Within 2 years, I was at $23,000/month.
Blogging has absolutely changed my life forever. Not because of the money, but because of women like YOU!
Every day, I get to go online and inspire women just like YOU all around the globe to accomplish their dreams.
For some, that may mean learning how to get out of debt and save money. For others, it may be learning how to make money from home, as I’ve been doing just that for 18 years now. For you, it means, learning how to blog.
Blogging isn’t some get rich scheme and it’s not something you can do in a day. It’s a snowball and you have to build it up like any other thing you want to do in life. Wanna raise at your job? You gotta work hard. Same thing with blogging.
But you’re scared and I get that. I have lots of people around me in my personal life who are afraid, and I help take them by the hand, every day, and give them the confidence they need to go after their dreams and TODAY, I wanna do the same thing for you.
Because it IS scary. I get it. But, it absolutely is something you can overcome!
You just need the right information to make a well-informed decision of what’s right for YOU.
That’s where I come in.
I know what it’s like to be afraid of jumping.
I’ve been there myself, but I also have seen the other side of all that. I make really good money and I’ve been featured on the Rachel Ray show, Wisebread, Parents, Buzzfeed, and so many more. And none of that would have ever happened if I didn’t take the bull by the horns and jump!
On December 23, 2013, my blog went live to the world. That was the day I jumped. My life hasn’t been the same since!
Today, if you’re struggling with fears that prevent you from going after your dreams and they are holding you back from starting a blog, or if you wanna see what blogging is all about and if it’s a right fit for you, keep reading!
Fear #1 – Where to Start: The Fear of Failure
I don’t know where to start. The fear of failure is stopping me from moving forward. How do I get past this?
My advice is to jump in head first. There will NEVER be a perfect time to start, but I sure thank God every day that I started three years ago, instead of today….
As far as facing your fears, take out a sheet of paper and make two columns on it. Write down all the bad things that are the worst case scenario for if you fail on one side of the paper. On the other side of the paper, write down the best case scenario.
Then, simply decide if all the best case scenarios are worth the risk. In my opinion, they always are.
Fear #2 – Overwhelmed with Info.
I’m overwhelmed from all of the information available to me online. How can I sort through all this quickly?
The quick answer is stop looking. Stop looking for information. Just put your head down, figure out the ONE step you’re working on right now, and follow NO MORE than 3 bloggers EVER at a time.
If you’re working on trying to build your email list, don’t go looking for content creation ideas or building on Facebook. Work on one thing at a time, until you’ve mastered it.
Fear #3 – Who Can I Trust?
There’s so many bloggers online who all seem to know what they’re doing. How do I know who to trust and what advice to follow?
I love reading other blogs, but for my own sanity, I simply had to stop. That means I don’t sign up for a bunch of emails either. At the time I’m writing this, I am literally following no one. But if you want to follow a couple bloggers, that’s great, just limit it to no more than three.
That’s it. When you’ve gleaned all you can from those three people, move on to 3 others, but not until you completely get what makes them so successful in the first place.
Fear #4 – Wasting Time and Money
What if I start a blog and I end up wasting my time and money?
That’s a real concern…and you may END UP wasting time and money, but you’ll know fairly soon after starting if you’re on to something or not and really, you will never know unless you try.
And if you have a mentality that you’re starting up a blog because you like it, because you WANT TO, money won’t matter. If you’re starting up a blog to earn money and that’s the #1 driving force, you will fail- I promise.
If it’s about money, and you don’t believe in YOURSELF enough to invest a couple hundred dollars in yourself and your passions, then fear of starting a blog is not your biggest problem.
Self worth is.
Ultimately, YOU decide your life.
Fear #5 – Everyone Successful Has Already Started
I’m starting too late on the blogging scene. Everyone who is going to be a successful blogger has already started.
I remember thinking that very same thing when I started, but it’s actually one of the biggest lies we can tell ourselves!
The internet is huge, gigantic even! There’s plenty of room for new bloggers. In fact, I’ve only just started blogging three years ago myself and I went from $0 to $23k/month income blogging by my second year.
I’ve seen other bloggers crop up behind me and making more than me! While there are some fantastic bloggers who are settled and well established, there is also PLENTY of room for new bloggers to make a name for themselves.
Fear #6 – How to Balance Kids and a Blog
How do you find time to run a successful blog with young kids? Maybe you want to work at it as though it’s a full time job, but you’re struggling to see where you could possibly find the time.
The first year I blogged, I did it with my kids at home. It was VERY difficult. I do not envy you at ALL in those regards. I would simply say to ‘steal’ time.
• When they are sleeping at night
• When they are napping
• When they are old enough to not nap anymore, have them have quiet time in their rooms for 1 hour.
• Have them play outside for an hour in the summer
• Have daddy take them for daddy/kids bonding one night a week for a couple hours.
• There are a gazillion ways to steal time
Fear #7 – What should I blog about?
I really want to get started blogging, but I’m not sure where to start. How did you come up with an inspiration to know what to write about?
Before I started a blog, a lot of my friends would come over and visit my home. As soon as they walked through the door, their mouths would drop. Literally, many of them would flat out ask how I can have such a nice home on such a meager income (at the time, $18,000/year).
And I’d tell them. This is what I do…I sell on eBay and that’s how I make my living and I’m extremely frugal with my money.
Many of them wanted to know more detailed information about how I saved so much money. Several of them told me they didn’t have all I had and they were a dual-income family making $60,000/year. “How is it, that a single mom who lives on $18k/year can possibly have more than ME,” they’d ask.
So, I started a blog. Simply answering my friends questions, one at a time. One post = one question.
Fear #8 – Perfectionism
I’m a perfectionist and I can’t seem to do half of what you do. How do you balance your perfectionism?
I would say that you have to let some things go.
There’s a certain point where you have to choose: Show your real self…or try to be perfect. I’d rather people see me, the real me, and I be transparent and not perfect, and help more people, get out more content, and so on, than hold myself back because I’m not perfect.

…and click here for a full tutorial and video to help you get started quickly and easily.
With Bluehost, signup is simple and you can get hosting as low at $2.95 (due in advance, depending on how many months you choose). They have you pay upfront and yes, you absolutely WANT to do that, so you don’t lose your domain name forever. It’s yours and no one can take it from you for as long as you purchase it in advance (I have 9 years on SarahTitus.com!)
The exact pricing is as follows:
$2.95 for 36 months –> $106.20 (so cheap seriously! I pay more than that for ONE month on my blog; I’m jealous of these prices. LOL)
$3.95 for 24 months –> $94.80 (great deal!)
$4.95 for 12 months –> $59.40 (great to get your foot in the door, but if you really wanna save money, opt for the longer term!)
