I’d love to tell you that I don’t have any experience getting permanent marker off things, but that would be a complete lie. I’ve had TOO much experience in my opinion. lol.
And I’ve heard a ton of remedies of using things like witch hazel and rubbing alcohol to get permanent marker off kids, but really, I just don’t have those things on hand and I really don’t want the toxins in my kids bodies. So, I like to use a more DIY natural approach.
Remove Permanent Marker Safely Off Just About Anything
For kids, I just take an astringent pad and put some Lemon essential oil on it and rub the permanent marker off from the skin. Easy peasy.
For furniture and walls….
I was in the living room, my daughter totally quiet and I go to look for her (you know when the little ones are quiet, it means T-R-O-U-B-L-E!) Sure enough, I find a black Sharpie in her hand and writings all over my closet walls. Ahhh! I tried using a Mr. Clean magic eraser, but it started peeling off the paint. I remembered what I heard about Lemon essential oil and how it safely removed petrochemicals in our bodies. I thought to myself, “Well, it’s worth a shot. What other choice do I have?”
Sure enough, the Lemon began taking the permanent marker off the walls and DID NOT remove the paint. I was pretty impressed. So, I tested that theory a few more times, none by choice of course. One of which was on a plastic toy I bought off Craigslist. I watched as the lady tried to scrub it off with whatever mixture she had, to no avail. I happened to have Lemon in the car with me (never leave home without my oils!) and of course, it came off and she was amazed. I tried to play it cool, but inside I was freaking out myself. It is really COOL!
The coolest thing of all is that Lemon is seriously one of the cheapest bottles of essential oil, so you can afford to have it on hand and use it for all your cleaning. It is my go-to cleaner. I love it! But, it also has a special place in my heart because it helped my body heal of a 5 year battle with Anemia that left doctors stumped and with no cure. Love my Lemon oil!
Directions: Be sure not to try this on any cloth material, like couches/fabric sofas or something like that. Whenever you use it, make sure to wipe it off immediately as Lemon oil dissolves petro-chemicals, so if left on there, it can discolor or damage your furniture/walls. I spray it on and wipe off immediately. No harm will come as long as you don’t let it sit on there, especially if it’s diluted with water.
