I know…you’ve had many years of experience brushing your hair and brushing hair benefits, and you really don’t need someone else telling you you’re doing it wrong.
I still remember the day someone told ME, I was doing it wrong, so I totally get it. I listened to them mostly out of curiosity never expecting they’d be RIGHT and you may be here for that very same reason. If you are, that means you are open to change and I totally like you already. 🙂 No matter how good we are at something, we can always improve, myself included.
You’re Doing It Wrong: Brushing Your Hair
If you’re anything like me, you are wondering why your hair is always falling out. Seriously, I was getting a LOT of hair falling out, I thought I was going bald. Problem is, it wasn’t my hair. It was me. I was brushing when it was wet, pulling and yanking like a crazy woman trying to get the tangles out. If you have long hair, you know what I mean.
I had read a tip about not brushing when it’s wet, so I tried that. Yeah, still lots of hair coming out.
Then, I saw a video on how we should use a comb instead of a brush. Now, we are getting somewhere! My hair didn’t fall out as much and I could comb it while it was wet. I recommend an Ionic one as it helps with static. If I wait to comb my hair until it dries, forget it. My hair is like a wavy mess. I’m not talking pretty beach waves. I’m talking I’ve been on the beach WAY too long wavy mess. Brushes are okay when your hair is dry if you want, but combs are always best.
So, the comb was helping but I still was having a lot of tangles and pulling hair out with the comb to try to get the tangles out.
That is until I saw another video that was so awesome! She was saying how with long hair we need to start at the bottom and work our way up. So, if you have hair half-way down your back, split up the sections, height-wise, into 3. Do the bottom third FIRST. Then the middle section, and lastly, the top section.
How we get tangles and breakage is by trying to comb all that hair down to the bottom. It catches, causes tangles = bad! So, if you start at the bottom with your strokes, you literally have very few tangles. As you slide the comb down, it slides down smoothly. No tangles = no hair pulling!
It takes some getting used to, especially if you’ve been doing it backwards all your life like me. 🙂 But once you get the hang of it, you’ll notice less and less of your hair coming out.
You can also use Rosemary essential oil on the roots of your hair to promote hair growth. I like to put about 10 drops of Rosemary in my shampoo bottles!
