On Sunday, our verse was on 1 Peter 2:23. I just love that verse, don’t you?
“and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;”
When Jesus was reviled, when He was suffering, He was silent. He hurled no threats back, He did not justify Himself, He simply was quiet and trusted His life in God’s hands.
It reminds me of one of my two favorite Bible verses. Psalm 46:10 where it says, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
When we are suffering, the godly response is to just be silent.
Being silent isn’t weakness. Quite the contrary, it’s strength.
How many people can be silent when they know they are right, like Jesus did?
For a long time, I’ve been quiet about some things. I suffer in silence and do not speak, though I know in my heart, that God WILL be glorified, that my life belongs in His hands, and ultimately, any suffering I must endure is His will and for my own benefit.
When all is said and done, I will be greatly blessed for my silence, but there will also be a day when I can speak. I look forward to that day in anticipation, when the culmination of His will in a particular situation is complete.
But until that day, I chose to be like Jesus…He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.
My friends, if you are suffering today, be encouraged.
You are not alone.
Give your requests to God. Let HIM fight your battles FOR YOU.
Be still, knowing that HE is God…there is nothing He cannot do; nothing He can not accomplish. And it is all for His glory…let Him be praised for His good name.
