The holidays are approaching rapidly and this means that the amount of time people have to get their finances in order to afford it, is rapidly ticking away.
If the holidays are a struggle for you each year (or even if they aren’t) and you scramble to try to have enough money to spend, here are some real ways that you can earn quick cash for Christmas, often with things you already have at home.
How to Earn Quick Cash for Christmas
Sell your clothing to make money fast
Do you have clothing that is name brand and still in good shape?
If you do, sell it!
You can do this by working with a consignment shop or by directly selling it yourself on eBay, Craigslist, or by listing it in a Facebook group.
If you have several things to sell and get your children’s clothes in the mix, you could easily add an extra 50 to 100 dollars to your shopping fund!
Likewise, don’t stop at clothing. Most people have more laying around than they realize and it can quickly add up to huge earnings.
Ask Your Bank to Defer a Payment
A little known secret is that many banks and credit unions offer payment deferment any time of the year, but during Christmas time, it is much more readily available.
Many places offer a 1 month deferment payment per year, but I’ve known companies that offer 2 payments.
Let’s say your car payment is $230/month, that’s an extra $230 right there. You’re still accruing interest, but it could get you by while you need it. Just be sure to plan wisely and don’t blow the money.
Pick up some extra holiday work
Many places hire just for the months of November, December, and January and give 15 hours or less. Even if you are making just minimum wage, this could equal a couple hundred dollars in spending money for your own holiday shopping for very few hours of work. Since these jobs are seasonal, they are often pretty flexible as well.
Become a Virtual Assistant
Often times bigger blogs hire out many things you can do from home as they need help running their blogs.
This could include anything from helping them on social media to designing pictures.
I know people who make $1,000 from home doing this type of work every single month. Granted that is very experienced virtual assistants, but even if you are just starting out, you can easily get your funds for Christmas saved away very quickly, and the work ranges from temporary to long term.
If you want to make legitimate money from home to help your family. Being a virtual assistant is, in my opinion, the EASIEST, fastest, and funnest way to make money in the blogging world. I wrote an entire book all about it, How to Make Real Money as a Virtual Assistant. You can get this information in my Honest Bloggers Academy Course.
Cut some of your own expenses
Could you live without cable and go with a streaming service instead?
How about cutting down your grocery budget a little?
It’s not all that difficult to cut corners on your monthly bills. In fact, I’ve written an entire article about it, 20 Ways to Save Money on Your Monthly Bills.
By making the money you ALREADY have, go further, you may find you had the money for Christmas all along with just a few minor adjustments!
Try entering blog giveaways
This time of year, many blogs giveaway prizes that you could use for gifts as well as cold hard cash and gift cards you can use to give as gifts or buy gifts with.
True, there is no guarantee, but if you enter enough of them, you are bound to win somewhere along the line.
For better chances, try entering ones on blogs that don’t have a huge following or are near the end of the giveaway time frame and still don’t have a lot of entries. I just entered a giveaway that only had ONE other entry on it. It still has 13 days left and I don’t know how long it’s been running, but even still, the odds are pretty good and I would really love to have the planner it’s giving away. 🙂 You know me, I love my planners!
It’s not uncommon to see some giveaway entries have just 1 or 2 people entering the whole time it’s going and if so, that means you have a 50% chance of winning!
Offer a service or freelance for extra side income
If you like detailed cleaning, offer to clean homes for the holidays. Maybe you are an animal lover; why not offer to dog sit for families that might be heading out of town?
You can do this by either setting up an ad on Craigslist or going to a website like Rover.com and signing up for an account. Who knows? Maybe it will turn into a gig you want to keep doing after the holidays.
Likewise sites like Fiverr and Odesk are also a great way to pick up some extra cash during the holidays. I’ve seen people make all kinds of money doing such average things like making a unique custom-made picture for someone else on Fiverr.
