I was 19 and engaged to my ex-husband. My mom asked me how we would live. How would we pay our bills. I said to her, “We’ll live on love. That’s all we need!”
I felt so passionately about it: that love solves all your problems. That if only you have the one true person for you in your life, that’s all you need.
And I WAS right.
The problem was…that I was looking for love in a person, a human, and had no clue at that time, of the love of my heavenly Father.
For it IS true. With GOD, all you need is love. He WILL care for you, He will take care of you, He will provide a way and in essence, all you really NEED is HIS love.
But as you can imagine, I came to a shocking reality, when my new husband couldn’t find employment and we bounced around, living with one family member after another, sleeping on couches and floors, just to survive.
It was not a fun time. And that torture that I went through then, would be nothing compared to what I would face, after over a decade of marriage, when he was having affair after affair, still bouncing around, this time from woman to woman. Wanting ME to be his wife, while he admittedly wanted and was with others at the same time. Very openly and very disgustingly! Even to the point of wanting ume and another woman at the same time.
I shudder to think of my past. The trauma I went through!
Let’s just say, I told him where to go and how to get there very quickly. Pig, doesn’t even come close to defining him. Trust me.
And love, what I THOUGHT I had with him, wasn’t true love after all.
It wasn’t God’s love because neither of us were saved (though, I’d come to salvation later on 😊). And I learned the hard way, that love isn’t all you need in this world.
Some of us are blessed and have experienced loving relationships.
Some of us have had to endure some very unhealthy relationships that did not truly show what love really is.
And some of us have come through things not really knowing how to love because our examples have not been good.
But the best example is out there for us. No matter what you’ve been through, what examples you’ve been shown, or how well you feel you love, we can go to the Source of love for everything we need…
…For God is love.
He doesn’t JUST love us; HE IS LOVE!!
His very essence is love.
Everything about Him is love; His protection, His provision, His guidance, His plans, His healing, His protecting you from enemies – EVERYTHING!
And we can know true love when we trust Him to show us what love really is. He will comfort us, guide us, and lead us in His great and glorious love.
