This simple, but delicious and classic recipe will have your family coming back for seconds! Every time I make it, it’s a huge crowd-pleaser!
Best Ground Beef and Italian Sausage Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients
For the sauce:
- 2 lbs Ground beef
- 1 lb Sausage
- 1 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 – 1 lb cans stewed Italian tomatoes
- 2 – 15 oz cans tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp parsley
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp Pink Himalayan salt (healthier option than regular salt, especially for those with blood pressure issues)
- 2 tsp basil
For the cheese mixture:
- 3 cups cottage cheese (4% milkfat)
- 1 cup of grated cheese
- 2 tsp oregano
- 2 tbsp parsley
- 1 tsp Pink Himalayan salt
For the layers:
- 1 cup grated cheese
- Lasagna noodles (I use Barilla Oven-Ready, so I don’t have to pre-cook the noodles)
Directions for this traditional lasagne recipe:
Step 1: Cook meat, add stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, parsley, sugar, salt, and basil.
Step 2: Simmer for 1 hour, or until mixture is the consistency of spaghetti sauce.
Step 3: Preheat oven 350 F.
Step 4 : Mix cottage cheese, grated cheese, parsley, salt, and oregano.
Step 5: Reserve 1 cup of meat sauce for thin top layer.
Step 6: In a baking pan (I use Corningware), layer noodles, meat sauce, cottage cheese mixture, repeat. Spread meat sauce on top then sprinkle grated cheese on top of that.
Step 7: Bake covered (I use aluminum foil) for 45 minutes or until noodles are soft. Remove cover and bake an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is golden brown. Serve, and enjoy!
