Do you ever have those times in your life when you think for a minute, “I can hardly remember what it was like before…” – you fill in the blank.
It seems like often these times come either after something terrific happens (like having kids) or after something pretty traumatic happens and we get into a good place (like leaving an abusive dating relationship).
It’s pretty natural to compare where we are to where we’ve been. Sometimes that’s good when we see how far we’ve come, and sometimes it’s not so good when we feel like we lost our way.
But I’m here to encourage and remind you that no matter where you are, Christ was there before you. He is the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega (Revelation 22:13).
He has always been and always will be (Revelation 1:8). The word tells us that “He is before all things” (Colossians 1:17).
No matter where you ever find yourself, God is there and was there before you got there.
He is Before All Things Wallpaper
In my study Bible, there’s a little heading for this portion of Colossians 1 titled Preeminence of Christ. I love that little heading because it has big meaning. Preeminence means “the fact of surpassing all others; superiority.”
Surpassing all others – superiority – yep, that’s my God!
This passage tells us that Christ is “the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth…” (Colossians 1:15-16).
Everything that’s created and everything that comes from that is not a surprise to Him – He was first.
Now that doesn’t mean that He created or condones all of the ugly sin that we experience and see around us. That is definitely not of Him! But He created us with free will so that we could CHOOSE to love and follow Him as our Lord and Savior. He doesn’t want “puppets” that only love Him because we’re made to. He wants our love and devotion to come from a heart that longs for Him.
But He sees and knows everything that happens. Christ experienced the very depths of our ugliness when He came to save us, so He knows just how bad it can get.
But He also experienced a loving earthly family and many loving followers, so He also knows how good those things can be. Because He is before all things.
I hope this verse burrows down into your heart and anchors itself there to remind you that nothing – no circumstance, no trial, no pain, no joy – will ever come your way that God is not already in the midst of. And He was working in it before you ever got there. 🥰
If you are currently struggling with where you find yourself and the situation you’re in, cry out and depend on Him because He was there working before you were there. Even when you don’t see Him working in your situation, He is! He’s BEEN working on it. Culminating everything to happen just the way He wants it to happen for our good, because He loves us.
If you currently find yourself in a place of joy, rejoice with thanksgiving and give Him praise because He was there working before you were there.
And if you find yourself in that place where things are just okay and you’re barely making it, feeling like you’re holding on for dear life, lean on Him for rest and believe His promises that He will provide your needs (physical, emotional, spiritual)!
I created these wallpapers with a nature background because it continues to remind me that He is before all things and all things were created by and for Him. He’s always working on our behalf and knows what we need before we even need it.
Trust Him.
