Gift Cards are the fall back gift most people give during the holiday season. They are simple and convenient and you can be assured that the one who gets it will be able to get what they want. However, if you are buying several, they can really add up in cost, especially if you are paying retail. Here are some tips on how to save money on gifts cards so you can spend less this holiday while still giving everyone quality presents.
How to Save Money on Gift Cards
Buy discount cards online
You can go to websites like GiftCardGranny.com and purchase gift cards for less than their face value. These gift cards are often sold for deals at least 5% less than their value so while it may not seem like much, if you purchase a lot, you will save a good amount of money and besides, why pay full price if you don’t have to? Additionally, if you are hoping to save money on these websites, why not sell some of your unwanted gift cards and buy discounted ones with them?
Check with your credit card company for discounts
If you have a credit card that offers reward points, see what you can spend them on. Often, you can get gift cards with them and around the holidays, they usually offer discounts on how many points needed to redeem.
Join Swagbucks
By downloading the Swagbucks search bar, you can earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards. You don’t have to do anything besides use this platform to search with. You can earn additional points by taking surveys and completing offers as well. Swagbucks also offers daily giveaways you can enter to win gift cards as well. Start earning points and cashing them in!
Don’t always buy gift cards online directly from retailers
Sometimes you’ll have to pay high shipping fees that far exceed what the gift card should cost to send. If you shop for gift cards online from stores, the trick is to send it as an e-gift card to the one you are buying it for so they can shop online with it and you can skip the shipping fees.
Look for holiday specials
Around this time of year, gift cards are being pushed hard by retailers. Many times, you can get a small value gift card free (usually $5-$20) when you buy a higher amount in gift cards. Overall, this brings the cost down. You may even be able to snag free gift cards at places like Target that regularly offer free $5 gift cards just for purchasing certain items in certain amounts. If you combine this with a coupon, you could practically pay nothing for these gift cards! Get on the mailing lists of the companies you want to buy gift cards for. I just got a $5 off $50 purchase from Target and that particular coupon includes the purchase of their gift cards.
Wouldn’t it be cool if there was some sort of list where you could see all the gift cards in alphabetical order by store name and when their next promotion is? You can! Head on over to Fabulessly Frugal and check out their post! Right now there’s a cool Chili’s gift card promo going on!!!!
Enter blog giveaways for gift cards
You can almost always find a blog doing a giveaway for a free gift card at any given time. What’s a better discount than free? This is not a guarantee that you will get a gift card, but if you are in the market to buy a bunch this holiday season, why not enter as many as you can as early as you can and save yourself some money if you win. It’s definitely worth a shot! For tips on how I win giveaways often, check out How to Win Giveaways {Insider Secrets}.
