Being a Christian isn’t walking down an aisle. It’s not checking a box on your DMV test. It’s a relationship with a living being. God is real and alive and He desires a relationship with us. He loves us, cares for us, shepherds us. He’s always there for us, He’s our best friend!
Investing in that relationship is reading your Bible, studying the Bible in-depth, reading Christian books, listening to worship music, going to church, hanging out with godly friends, seeking wise council, teaching others about Christ, listening to sermons, and definitely, praying. 😊
Anything and everything you can do for the glory of the Lord is a good thing. Everything you can do to focus and concentrate your mind on God and what His will is for your life is worthy and that includes prayer.
Prayer is a vital part of who we are as believers. No longer do we have to go to a priest or prophet as they did in Bible times to be able to speak to God. How cool is that?! 🙌 With the giving of the Holy Spirit, each and every believer can access God in their hearts anytime they want. WOW!!! 👏
But BECAUSE we can, we often take that gift for granted and people don’t pray as much as they should.
It’s kinda like the Bible. How often throughout the day, do you crack open that thing? Does it have dust on it? Hidden in the back of the closet? Or maybe you DO open it, but it’s only when you really FEEL like it.
We all take things for granted so much because we have instant access to it.
The whiny child gripes because they don’t have BETTER food (candy, sugar, sweets all the time). They don’t want the STEAK dinner you just fed them. Who cares about THAT, right?! When we don’t have candy. Let’s focus on candy, yeah, cuz that’s better. 😒
Or a wife who gets mad at her husband because he didn’t take out the trash that night. DUDE! He just got up at 6 am, went to work, dealt with people all day long that get on his last nerve, came home to YOU, his amazingly beautiful wife, was met by a barking dog and screaming kid and she shoves the baby in his face the second he gets home and says, “By the way…take out the trash”.
Listen, I KNOW you worked hard too all day. Being a stay-at-home mom is a tough job. I get it. I’m a stay-at-home mom. 😊 But that doesn’t mean OUR day is any LESS ROUGH than his…he just is too kind to shove it in your face. 💖
Admit it. We ALL take things for granted. To the single mom, she’d DIE for a husband to even SAY take out the trash to, meanwhile, other wives are complaining about their husbands because he’s not living up to our idea of a perfect husband.
Or that woman out there saying, “I can’t have a baby. We’ve tried EVERYTHING. I want a baby soooo bad.” They are dying to have a baby and I’m complaining about my kids and steak.
No one is exempt from taking things for granted. No one.
We need to show GRACE! To ourselves and to everyone else!
In the Bible days, they didn’t HAVE the Bible. They had ONE Torah and each week, they’d read a small section from it.
There wasn’t study Bibles. They couldn’t take the Bible home. It was all on parchment paper kept in a secret place (usually a closet). Someone would come out, sit on the Moses seat and read from the Torah and the men would take turns doing that.
Today, we have Bibles everywhere! In every hotel room, in our homes, in our cars, everywhere and so we don’t use them like we should.
Once we see this, we can do something about it.
Prayer is free. You can pray anytime you want. In the grocery store line, while waiting to pick up your kids from school, at night before bed, when you wake up in the morning, before you eat, etc.
Praying without ceasing means to take that gift seriously. It means to pray, to talk to God, the God who lives inside of you, day and night.
It’s a state of never STOPPING prayers. Never STOPPING talking to Christ. Never-ending that relationship with Him.
He LOVES to hear from us.
He desires so much to have such a strong relationship with us! Isn’t that amazing that the God who created the entire universe cares to hear OUR thoughts?! Wow. Just incredible!!! He cares SOOO much! 💖
Yesterday I was reading in the Bible how He was praising humans because they were seeking Him daily and looking for the will of their lives through Him. This pleases Him. Our prayers, our lining up our lives into His image and what HE wants, is glorifying to Him. It honors Him. It makes Him happy.
As a Christian, Jesus should be our best friend and there’s no one, not even your husband or your kids or anyone else that you should talk to MORE than Christ!
If you’re mad, tell Him.
If you’re happy, tell Him.
He already knows and He loves when we include Him in our lives. Our lives should be about Him!
Praying without ceasing is to never STOP communicating with God, day or night.
