Being a Christian is tough, especially in today’s world with everything going on.
It seems like so many people SAY they’re Christian but don’t live the life of someone who follows the Lord, and while we certainly can’t judge anyone’s heart, the Bible is crystal clear when it says that FEW find the road to salvation (Matthew 7:13-14).
There aren’t a bunch of people on the road to Heaven. It’s not so jammed packed, you can’t find parking…mall on a busy day in the middle of Christmas shopping season packed.
We’re talking FEW. That doesn’t mean NONE. It means FEW.
So when we come across verses like “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15), we automatically tend to think: I’m one of the few. I’m a true believer.
And when we HEAR those verses over and over and over and OVER AGAIN, we tend to tune them out and it’s like this little heart prick…yep, I’m a true believer, check. ✔
Like we’re checking off this list.
We all do it from time to time. The world is so busy and I get that. GOD gets that. He knows. He understands.
But I want to help you think DIFFERENTLY today. I want to propose to you that you really genuinely HEAR those verses we’ve all heard so often in a new and different way.
Are you one of the few? Sure. You and your house, you’re saved. Okay. That’s FANTASTIC. Honestly, it’s amazing! But…sometimes I think that WE THINK we’re so smart, when we really only show how utterly in need of a Savior we are.
Did you pay attention to the LAST part of the verse at all??????????????
In your millions and billions and trillions of times hearing that, you check mark off the little heart poke, yep, I’m one of the few. But are you SERVING the Lord? 💣
Have you served the Lord today?
Quick, name me something you’ve done TODAY to serve the Lord! 👈
How about this week?
This month?
Have you done something sacrificial for Him, just Him, not expecting to receive ANYTHING in return?
Have you…have I…spent our entire day SERVING the Lord?
Listen we are not here for ourselves, 💯 and we’re definitely not here to raise our thoughts above others and condescend everyone else who ISN’T part of the “few”. 💯💯 That’s not what God wants at all. And yet every time we hear that verse, where does our finite minds go to? I’m a “few”. Check. I’m good, they’re not. Okay.
But what IF we need to start thinking about the Bible in the way that GOD intended it. That means reading every single WORD in verses and truly pondering every word. Instead of running it through our own warped minds of who we THINK He is or glancing over tons of text. We need to be diving DEEPER. 💣💣
Believe me when I say, there’s a LOT you (and I) don’t know about God. And if we think we have Him all figured out, think again! 🤯 Every word MATTERS in order to truly get to know the God we serve!
It’s not just the fools of the world, who are not wise. When we think of a fool, we think of some jester or clown that performs in front of a king or something, right? That’s not just a fool. The fools are the smart people! The people who THINK they’re all smart and wise. Because in TRULY getting and attaining wisdom, we realize how UNwise we REALLY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💣
Don’t believe me?
Here’s another one…
Be still and know.
It comes from Psalm 46:10. People are always stopping there, be still and know. Know what? That He is GOD. GOD AL-MIGHT-Y.
And if you get that far, awesome. Perfect. Great. You know about God.
Even the bad angels know about God!!!!!! 💣
Congratulations. Pat ourselves on the back. 😒
No, what else is there in that verse…be STILL.
And if you say you already know that, have you done it???
Have you been completely STILL this week?
Quick, think of your day today. Have you spent 30 minutes in the Word of God?
Have you taken an hour with Him to just be STILL and LISTEN?!
Have you completely RE-ARRANGED YOUR ENTIRE LIFE in order that you HAVE TIME to be still??????????
What’s the point of reading the Bible just to have knowledge if we’re not going to actually line up our lives TO it?!
I tell you the truth, my dear friend, THAT is exactly what He EXPECTS from us. Not desires, not wishes, EXPECTS. To read His Word AND apply it! To rearrange our entire life to have TIME for the things of God. 👉 Society has us so busy, we’re all rushing around so fast, we forget why we’re even HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why are you here? On earth? Today? Have you considered it? Have you thought about it today? Does your life reflect why you’re here???
How about this month? THIS YEAR????
We live in a world that is on fire!
Don’t believe me?
Cook food.
In the old days, they had to butcher the animals. It took days to cook. Ever really study out how bread was made. Oh….my…GOODness.
Today, we go to the store, grab meat and bread and make a meal. We grab butter. Try churning it.
Then we heat up food in the microwave, which takes all of 5 seconds, to heat. If you have a microwave like mine, it has some technology to it that even cooks FASTER than your “average” microwave, as if THAT wasn’t FAST ENOUGH!
Point is, the world’s on fire and going at lightning speed. How many times have you HONESTLY been still this week? Fess up.
One? None?
When was the last time you sat in stillness and just pondered the things of God?
Looked at His creation and majesty and were filled with wonder and awe?
No, the world is going a mile a minute and we’re in it. 😬
The baby cries and wants to be held, the dog is having a breathing issue because she’s way too excited to meet strangers, you have to move your car because you’re TRYING to make a little side money selling something and your phone is dinging at you repeatedly for who knows whatever app you have on there that’s screaming for attention THIS time.
Life is busy.
Life is DEMANDING.
Life is CRAZY.
But that doesn’t mean 👉WE👈 have to be. 🥰
Turn off the phone. Don’t be so rushed. Let people wait 2 minutes. I promise, the world is NOT going to end because someone has to wait. But you might, if you continue to try to keep up with it. 💣
- Your health.
- Your stress.
- Your blood pressure.
Don’t get me started on how stress causes gray hairs! 😂
And yet we hear these verses and think we have them all figured out. Yep, I know God. Yep, I’m one of the few.
“Amen! Preach it brother!”
But there’s more! There’s sooooo much more God wants to teach us and show us, but we have to be willing to listen and learn from Him. And when we do, our lives are SO full of blessing. 💖
It reminds me of my FAVORITE story in the Bible…Ruth and Boaz, a true love story for sure!
The workers are taking the grain and they leave a little bit behind for Ruth. She gleans and gets food for her and Naomi.
She’s picking up the left overs.
When we read a verse, we brush over it so quickly and we ALL do this. We need to sit and take a moment and really GLEAN EVERYTHING…like Ruth!
Don’t leave a drop of water left.
Don’t leave a grain left on the field.
And don’t leave a word out of Scripture. 💎
Every single jot and tittle is important in the Bible. And when we think we have it all down, we know just a small, tiny little smallest fraction of it.
World: we’re going too fast.
Christians: we’re going too fast. 💣
Lord: we’re going too fast. Please help us to live in this world but NOT be conformed to it (Romans 12:2). Forgive us for NOT gleaning every bit of your precious Word that we can. Turn our hearts back to you and make us a people that you will be proud of. A people that loves you and serves you and adores you every single day!
Listen, God is definitely the I AM. He is “know that I am God”, but unless we are being STILL, we won’t really understand EITHER part of that verse, the being still OR knowing God. Not fully anyway, and not to the depths that He wants you to know Him.
When you read Scripture, don’t just brush over everything so quickly. Take the time to really process and think about everything IN that sentence. If we don’t, we read verses wrong because we simply miss…well, everything. 😮
Be still
and know
that I AM God.
Read the Bible differently.
The Word of God is SO precious. 💎 I can’t get enough of it. I’m obsessed with it. The more I read, the more I get to know God how HE intends for us to know Him, the more I fall in love with Him. I’m tearing up. 😥 He’s SO precious to me!
And that means, taking the time through verses we’ve heard a billion and one times, and gleaning every single thing out of that verse that we possibly can.
Reading the Bible is not a marathon race. What does it serve any of us if we read it so fast we don’t even remember what we read. NO! Read it slowly. Take your time. Be like Ruth and pick up EVERYTHING. Stop leaving the jewels on the table. 💎 Stop glossing over all those precious words.
Someone out there today NEEDS TO HEAR TO BE STILL!!!!!!!!!!!!
- You’re working too hard
- You’re going too fast
- Your health is suffering
I’m not saying be lazy. Never. But there is a kind of work that we do FOR THE LORD that IS still. Peaceful. Calm. If you want to learn more about it, there’s a book I am in love with.
Outside of the Bible, it’s one of my favorite books on the planet. It’s about resting…WHILE you work.
Work hard…peacefully.
I highly encourage you to check it out. It is super amazing and have really helped me sooooo much in my life.
What OTHER verses can you think of, off the top of your head, that you’ve glossed over?
Take a few minutes to think of some, then look them up in the Bible and really meditate on those verses, asking God to show you new jewels 💎 you never knew before. Let His Word wash over your heart. Pray for wisdom. I promise you, if you pray for wisdom, He WILL give it! If you seek it like treasure. HE is our treasure. 🎁💯
